So what do you think? Should Hyundai go ahead with a luxury division or not? If they do, the vehicles in this separate division are likely going to be fairly expensive - yet less so than the competition. Sort of like what Lexus did with the LS400 in 1989.

Honestly, I believe that if Hyundai does start a luxury division, the vehicles will eventually be just as expensive, if not moreso, than Lexus and Mercedes vehicles have become.

Or should Hyundai simply stay the way they are - offering excellent luxury and amenities for a small price?

Keep the dealership and customer service experience in mind...

Just an FYI - I'm hearing that Hyundai may be selling the Genesis under it's own name outside the United States.

In other words, there will be no Hyundai badges on it. Maybe this is like Chrysler's Imperial - or even Buick's Riviera..

I have a feeling Hyundai will be testing out the Genesis brand name outside the U.S...

One gets the feeling that Hyundai wishes to elevate the entire brand, not spin off another. I think that's admirable, but they have a mountain to climb.

I hope they only allow certain top Hyundai dealers to sell and service Genesis. Owners of such cars expect top notch service, and will be disappointed with the average dealership cattle dips. I think Hyundai should require a stringent "qualification" process to sell Genesis. The dealers should be required to have posh, roomy waiting areas for Genesis owners only, top notch techs, and give them a measure of priority in the garage.

While I'm not sure they'd be allowed to have Genesis-Only waiting areas, you're 100% dead on with the rest. Only dealerships that either sell a LOT of Hyundais and/or those with excellent customer service ratings should sell the Genesis... That would definitely help big time!

Yes, I'm all for a new Hyundai luxury division. Based on what I've seen with most of their recent products, in an upscale division, they will probably outdo Lexus and Infiniti in some areas. Hyundai engines and drivetrains, though, are not yet as powerful or efficient as those of Japanese competitors.........but are rapidly improving. And the fit and finish of their newest vehicles, for the most part, is as good, and in many cases better, than the Japanese competition. Toyota, in particular, has dropped in quality in the last few years.

That's a great point about Toyota quality. Half of me is very surprised - the other half, not so - because look at the volume Toyota is producing.. They got a little ahead of themselves. I think they'll be very quick to fix this issue.

As for Hyundai - it's amazing how far they've come recently.. I firmly believe that it's only a matter of time before Hyundai is selling vehicles on the same level as the Mercedes S-Class and Lexus LS460.. What's stopping them? They HAVE the money. The only thing that's stopping Domestic American companies right now is money...

While Hyundai drivetrains are not yet up to par with their competitors, they're getting VERY close now - especially with the new Genesis.. I think they're ready for a luxury division. In fact, I think they're running a little late. How much further than the Genesis can they go before creating a separate luxury division no longer makes any sense?

In other words, if they already have a Hyundai S550 - what's the sense of developing a luxury division? To sell what? Unless the luxury division is intending to sell vehicles that compete with Bentley and Rolls Royce...

Hi all.

While I don't own a Hyundai, I am eagerly awaiting the Genesis (V-8) to arrive.  On the topic of the dealerships, I have emailed 3 different dealerships, simply asking them when they might know about pricing/availability on the Genesis.  Still no response (this was a week ago).

On the flip side, I asked the same question to Buick (about the Lucerne Super), and, within a few hours, somebody from GM called me to discuss it.

So, my point is simply that if Hyundai wants to work in the "luxury" market, they really have to step up their customer service.......

That's a shame, Mishka.. I do know that Buick is working Very hard at improving customer service. They "want" to be the American "Lexus". They have a long way to go. However, they're putting their best foot forward.

Hyundai needs to do this as well. If they're going to sell the Genesis as a Hyundai, they'd better start working on their customer service.. These cars aren't Hondas - they're not going to sell themselves...

This is where a separate luxury division would make sense. The employees would be trained properly on many different levels.. Such as answering emails in under three weeks! Ridiculous.. And worse? Three different dealerships..

You should write to Hyundai Corporate, Mishka...

Well, up until I found out about the Genesis (sedan), I have been aiming towards getting the Lucerne Super, after my current lease is up (Feb 09).  Buick has sent me TONS of stuff (they spent a pretty penny in their marketing materials!), and, has called me every once in a while to see if I have any more questions.

Just a dissapointment that Hyundai is seriously lacking here......

I hope they step it up.

Regardless, I am eagerly looking forward to the auto show (NYC) in March, when I can finally see the Genesis....

I just got off Hyundai's site.

Under "Contact Us", there is just a mailing address, and, phone number.

There isn't even an email link to corporate.
